A living lab for public participation

TIAS lab is a living laboratory for public participation. We design, run and study real-world participation processes to learn how participation actually works.

What we do

Research clusters

The families of participation processes we design and run. Open one to read more and explore its actions.

What we study

Research lines

The cross-cutting questions that run through everything we do, whatever the cluster.

Our approach

Participation as a place to experiment

A living lab treats the real world as the laboratory. We don't just run participation processes. We observe them, test different ways of implementing them, and study what works and why.

Our themes sit at the edge of social science and sustainability: postgrowth innovation, the right to repair, democracy, feminism and ecological limits. The goal is participation that is meaningful for people and rigorous for research.

More about the lab
Design
We co-design real participation processes with communities and institutions.
Run
We implement them on the ground: assemblies, citizen science and workshops.
Study
We analyse the results and share what we learn through publications.
